PPC Emergency Response

The organisation was active during the 2072 earthquake. It was involved in survey the status of school infrastructures under the guidance of District Education Office. The survey was useful to know which schools were safe and can be started immediately and which ones are damaged and need reconstruction. Further, the NGO with a team of psychosocial counsellor was involved in counselling of students of 43 schools of Dhanusha. The counselling was focused on removing fears of earthquake shocks from the mind of students and making them to resume normalcy.

 

 

During the 2017 floods in Madhes Province, the PPC was actively involved in settlement of IDPs of ward 1, 16, 21 of Janakpurdham Metropolitan Municipality at safe locations. The IDPs got supply of food and non-food items in coordination with the NGO. Coordination was made with Police, Ward commissioner and social workers to assess the damage done by the flood to the IDPs.

 

 

The PPC worked very hard during COVID 19 pandemic. It supported the Janakpur sub metropolis, HanspurNagarpalika, GaneshmanCharnathNagarpalika, Mithila Nagarpalika and ChireshwarnathNagarpalika, Dhanaugji Rural Municipality and Aurahi Rural Municipality of Dhanusha and Jaleshwar, Bardibas, Loharpatty, Manrasiswa and EkdaraPalikas of Mahottarydidstrictsin establishing WASH and sanitation facilities at quarantine centre. The NGO also provided thermal gun, masks, globes, face sheet, apron, soaps, sanitizer and bucket and mug to the quarantine centres established at school. It conducted Radio jingles and short public announcements on arresting the spread of the Covid 19 and Covid 19’s Dos/ Don’t. The NGO organised public conversation at FM inviting political leaders, teachers and health personnel. The talk was focused on the status, issues and challenges related to Covid 19 pandemic. Total sanitation and hand wash campaign was run in many municipalities, schools, Bank and other institutions engaging community. PPC also initiated free mask distribution at schools and public places. The NGO conducted alternative education classes in 7 community groups by installing Wi-Fi. The students of poor, vulnerable and socially excluded community got access to the classes run by different TV Channels because of the Wi-Fi. Advocated for continuity of learning through mass media like FM radio, TV and daily news papers and home schooling. It would be possible to replicate some of the learning from here to the emergency education. The NGO also conducted socio-psychological counselling to the students and parents in 7 community groups on how not to be panic during pre and post Covid. As the markets were closed during the emergency, the NGO managed the delivery of learning materials to the students of remote communities from the Palikas.
